Joe McKellick, long time team captain (16 years) retired from New Page on March 20th. ALA staff was in attendance and Kathryn Libby and Ed Miller presented Joe with a plaque in recognition of his achievement.

“An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean. "Why do you bother?" the old man scoffed. "You're not saving enough to make a difference." The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. "Made a difference to that one," he said. You make a difference every day.”

Fifteen years ago, if Joe McKellick saw himself as just one trekker trying to make a difference he could have been discouraged. Instead, Joe chose to ride the Trek and then decided to take on the role of team captain! He knew that one person can make a difference. Joe has touched many people over the last 15 years. He has encouraged people to be physically active and has helped to recruit volunteers  Since 1994, Joe has recruited 277 individuals that have been and continue to be participants in the Trek Across Maine. The New Page team has raised approximately $398,000 through Joe’s leadership and dedication. Truly one person can make a difference.

Thank You Joe!

How Do I Register a Team?

All you need is a Team Name and a Team Captain!

The Team Captain will go to our Online Services section and click "Start A New Team". Once the captain is registered, and has created the new team, the team members can simply login to the same Online Services page, and "Register as a Rider for 2008" then click "Join a Team". They'll have a menu from which to select the team name, so make sure potential recruits have the Team Name for when they decide to register. It's that easy!

Not Sure What Team to Join?

Join the Friends of ALA Team and our new call to action that is relevant to everyone - The Healthy Air Campaign - Own Your Air!

Our Team is made up of numerous individuals who have loved ones who have been affected by lung disease and who want a healthier Maine!

If you are interested in joining another one of our many Trek Teams, please contact us. Our staff will contact the Team Captain for permission to add you to their team!
