We have a variety of volunteer positions available. Please read through and pick the ones that appeal to you. As you read, you will see how each component is vital to the Trek's success. Most of the jobs require that you be outside regardless of the weather. Do you have special talents or ideas, share them with us. Volunteers make it happen.

Rest Stops

Trekkers love the rest stops where they "fuel up," so they can be busy at times. Volunteers provide food, water, juice and most of all, encouragement to the Trekkers along the bicycle route. Dress up the tables and the area anyway you like; play music, set up balloons. Whatever you come up with, the Trekkers will appreciate.

Food Service

From Thursday afternoon until Sunday, food service volunteers play a valuable role in the Trek. From preparing food, making coffee, filling water bottles to handing out food. Bring your smiles and willingness to perform essential tasks. Working on the food service team is a great way to meet and see everyone who is involved with the ride.

Route Marshals

Do you like to give directions? This is the volunteer task for you. Point the trekkers in the right direction while standing at intersections. Warn traffic of crossing riders and trekkers of potential hazards. You must be on your toes for this critical job!

Luggage

Must be up early to start packing over 3,600 pieces of luggage in large trucks to move from the start to the finish each day. The job requires long hours of lifting fairly heavy luggage. At the finish each day, the bags are sorted into lots of 50 for easy pickup by the Trekkers.

Set Up/Clean Up

Are you organized? This may be the position for you. We need volunteers to work with logistics staff to set up the facilities in advance of riders arrival. Hang banners, put out signs and erect finish line. Clean up may not be as glamorous but just as important as you dismantle and get ready for the next day.

Finish Line Duties

One of the most important volunteer tasks. Here you cheer on the riders as they cross the finish line at each facility. Decorate the finish line, put on a fun hat, blow a whistle but most of all wear a smile. Bring a group of friends or family and have fun! On day three hand out medals at Owls Head and enjoy the festivities.

Shuttle Driver

Shuttle Trekkers around either campus or between UMF and Colby College. The riders really appreciate you especially after they have ridden 60+ miles.

Camp Site

Must be very outgoing and willing to ask trekkers if they need your help. Duties include carrying luggage to tent sites, greeting people as they arrive at the camping area, helping trekkers set up tents, and keeping the moral up at the campsite.
